Shortcuts for search, time, view, and flight.

AstroPlotorium User Manual

The ? button at the bottom left, or Shift+F1, opens a strip of keycaps for the ship and the camera. Keys that do nothing in the current camera mode are dimmed. F1 opens the written help page inside the app. Press F1 again to close it.

Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text box, except Esc, F1, Shift+F1, and the script-console keys. Space types a space in a text box. Outside a text box, Space jumps to search.

Esc Close a dialog or menu. Otherwise leave presentation, close the script console, or show and hide the side panels
V Photo Real. In the solar-system chart and the planisphere, this is Presentation
P Presentation
F1 Help page
Shift+F1 Keyboard strip
F4 Save a screenshot
F6 Free-Fly in 3D Universe. In 3D Orbit, unlock flying
F12, Ctrl+J or Command+J, or backtick Script console
Enter Zoom in on the target, or zoom back out
G Grids
U Orbit flight tapes, in 3D Orbit
K Angular scale bars
Command or Ctrl, with + − or 0 Zoom the buttons and text, not the sky

Look and zoom

Key Action
Arrow keys Look. In orbit-to-target, they swing around the object. Shift+Up and Shift+Down are field of view, not look
Page Up, Shift+Up Narrower field of view
Page Down, Shift+Down Wider field of view
Shift+Left, Shift+Right Roll
Z Level the roll. In fly modes, also look along the ship’s nose
Shift+Z In 3D Orbit, aim the ship at the direction you are looking
Y, H Faster, slower

Ship

Unused when you are only looking around the sky sphere.

Key Free-Fly 3D Orbit
W, S Pitch the nose Altitude up, down
A, D Yaw Turn. Also starts a flight from a hover
Q, E Bank Bank
R, F Thrust forward, back Along the track. Also starts a flight from a hover

Time

Key Action

Ctrl + [ ] 1 minute
